Hello there! With a massive excitement I want to announce couple of things! Finally! This blog exceeded 100 blog posts mark! You know what it means right? Lindyverse has over 100 blog posts now! Have a good time reading them all 😀
Also, another announcement – Lindyverse fan page exceeded well over 1,000 likes! Yes!
Anyway, last weekend I attended Oxford Lindy Exchange 2015. I had to sacrifice several events here in London for this … events like Nighthawks with live band or Natty Congeroo & The Flames of Rhythm gig on Sunday afternoon. I still regret nothing!
Oxford is about 60 miles from where I live and I decided to drive every single day. Next time I am so booking accommodation. It takes just over an hour to get there, it’s not really that bad but parking is really hard. I was (un)lucky to do evening balls due to work/rest/other stuff I had to do in the afternoon. I was lucky because it’s easy to park after 6:30 PM on High Street (city centre), I just had problem parking on Sunday as I came early – 3-4 PM. In London, you can park mostly anywhere on Sunday, even if it’s morning. It does not apply in Oxford. So I parked about 2 miles away from the venue. Also, when you dance for 5-7 hours almost non-stop, you get quite tired even to drive … yep, OLX 2015 was that good!
I was unlucky to attend only evening balls – I skipped couple tea parties, punting, picnic, city tour, etc … oh well, maybe next time.
Anyway, the social dancing was just absolutely amazing! There were lots of live bands but I heard only 3. I heard Melody Room Jazz Band, Down for the Count and Benoit Viellefon and his Orchestra. Venues were amazing. Especially the one on Saturday and Sunday (Oxford Union). You could only get in there with a wristband … I felt like VIP and then you get in the property and there are gardens, like a mini mansion or something. Really well organised and stuff. And venue was big enough to have swing outs at its busiest times. Floor was really good, not too slippery but you could slide. Floor-craft was lovely. So many people, there weren’t that many friends but people were so lovely and friendly so I made many new friends!
I am surprised what I got for so cheap! I paid £40 for the whole weekend and it was worth every single penny! I don’t really know what else to say really; bands were fantastic and very professional, lovely people, great atmosphere, great dancing, event organised really well! We also had great DJ music. It was lovely to go outside to cool down. We had free coffee and other refreshments/cookies (which does not really happen in London), blues afterparties (which I attended just for a quick peak/pizza). I was a bit disappointed that it ended at 7:30 PM on Sunday evening … but I was hardly able to dance by then anyway … 😀
Am I coming back next year? 1000%! Next time, I am doing all the activities so I can blog in more details about this awesome event.
And as always, thanks for putting up with my shameless selfies 😀 Next event is going to be Kai’s Live & Let Jive so if you see me, come and say “hi” and let’s have a selfie or two … 😀
