Hello there, it has been a while since my last post about event I went to. So yesterday I went to “Gordon Webster Swings” event held by Swing Patrol London.
The event took place at the Porchester Hall. I think that the name of the venue (or rather location) is cool. It sounds similar to Porsche + Chester (although, I am not a big fan on Porsche xD). Anyway, the ballroom was big, very big. Floor was alright, I couldn’t slide but at least it was even, without any holes or bumps. It was nice but a bit rough, I’d say. The best thing was that the hall was big enough to swing out even during the busiest time … and it was busy especially when Gordon Webster was on. The atmoshpere was really awesome, many old friends, many new friends.
Gordon Webster was really amazing and I think he is one of the best swing musicians in the world. He made it into my favourite bands over a half year ago when I heard him at London Lindy Exchange 2015. Then he also played at he after party at CJAM. He does not play one hour long songs and he does not play extreme-balboa-kind-of songs. You can easily swing. Gordon also engages with his audience, he is very talented man. He played 3 sets of about 30-40 minutes each.
The DJing was fine, the ballroom was half-full in between live band sets. I don’t know about you, but I don’t think that rock’n’roll songs work well at swing events.
After all, I think that the event was one of the best I have been to this month … or since
winter autumn (obviously, you can’t beat Lindy Shock with a single night event). I truly enjoyed it – great band, great people, great dances, great dancers, lovely atmosphere, amazing venue and lots of space.
Oh, and floor-craft. Floor-craft was amazing! Would I come back to this event? ABSOLUTELY!
So, if you loved this post, consider following Lindyverse on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. I will come to the Snow Ball 2015 tomorrow (event held by Swingdance UK). If you see me, come and say hi and let’s a have a dance … or two … or million. See you.
