Hi all, so I went to this event called “Live & Let Jive” hosted by Kai Hoffman on Thursday.
As always, I shall start with traffic rant right? It was really aweful! What took me 50 minutes to get home, took me around 2 hours to get there. I had to drive through central London … and there were roads closed … ferraris tail-gating, sudden swerves due to idiots not driving safely and changing lanes with no signal or just cutting me off, lots of traffic dodgers, etc … a journey full of adventures I might say 😀
So anyway, I got to the venue at around 7:50 PM. I managed to hear a few last songs from Down For The Count. From my past experiences hearing this band, I can tell you that they always do top-notch work! One of their songs include “I’m just a gigolo” which is probably the best song and I got to hear it on Thursday! Not only that but they improvised it to make it more Easter-themed which was amazing! I wasn’t fast enough to grab a selfie with the band unfortunately 🙁
Then we had jive class. I didn’t do it, I was kind of resting (while I had no dances prior class 😀 ) and I prefer lindy hop anyway. They didn’t seem to rotate but they did quite a few moves!
Then we had some DJ music and then Kai Hoffman got onto the stage. She has a fabulous voice and the tempo of the songs she sings is just perfect – some slow, a lot medium, some fast. Exactly what I love! She also manages to engage with the crowd. There was this song where we had to sing a particular phrase. It was awesome when everybody could make it sound so cool and then there was me … not getting in time … not even once … 😀
The venue itself is quite small. It would be alright if I could dance Balboa, there could fit like 10-20 couple that way. There were also many people doing solo … with drinks in their hands. It’s a bit dangerous when you have to watch out and not to bump into somebody who has a drink but then I guess it wouldn’t be my fault if somebody dropped their drink(s). I had a great time nevertheless.
To sum it up, I shall be regular from now on. It’s on first Thursday of every month. I am off to London Lindy Exchange in May but this should not clash with the next Live & Let Jive event. I may have to use tube next time as driving is a bit tiring … not the driving bit but rather avoiding whacking people over when they cross roads randomly in masses.
And as always, a selfie/groupie (I’m still not sure whether it’s selfie or groupie 😀 ) with the hostess herself.
