Dancing like a billionaire

“Swing royalty’s here!” – that’s how I was greeted by Dave, who is a member of fabulous band called Millie & The Millionaires. Invisible electric lightning bolt struck my whole body and surrounded me in this warm and pleasuring ball of great vibe. A foam of music fell over my ears … the song “In the mood” stuck in my head. It felt like time stopped completely … for 2 seconds … and then I was returned back to life by the door lady who asked to pay the fee. To make sense of where I was and how I happened to be there, we need to go back in time, where it all started …

I met Dave long time ago, at some Swing Patrol London classes and events. I don’t remember exactly where but it had to be somewhere north … or east … or central. Over time, I get to know him better and, surprisingly, quite recently, I found out that he plays in the band. As live-band-lindy-events addict as I am, there was no suprise I would come to his band’s event and blog about it. That was my second time I heard the vibes of their instruments and voice produce and damn, it was orgasm to my ears …

Last Friday’s journey started as I passed through the doors of Langham Working Men Club. As I entered the first room, I noticed a bar to my right with beers on the tap (I like my beer on tap, if you catch my drift čśë ). There was slot machine on the left. The latter object reminded me of my “gambling addiction” when I was a kid. Monopoly is kind of gambling game where you play with other people’s fake money and real nerves. That memory reminded me of how desolated from the outer world I was – I had a dog, a straw, a car and a ship … all made out of plastic … and all by my side. You got the idea right – I used to play alone impersonating 4 people and I had no regrets. That memory wasn’t greatest of all, it didn’t take me long to rush through the hallway to the ballroom.

So entered the ballroom after I had my euphoria for eternity … or 2 real seconds (depending on how you look at things). I looked around and there were blue chairs and in-colour-that-I-can’t-remember-right-now tables lined up the walls. I looked and saw there were a few free blue chairs at the farthest corner of the room. I quickly rushed through the dancing floor almost hitting dancers who were dancing due to lack of attention of surroundings.

I sat on the chair, changed the shoes and waited for couple of songs. I waited for the band to start and my balls to grow so I could ask someone to dance. When the band started, it all changed. The dancing floor went from dull to full. From vibeless to spaceless. You could see the beginner dancers cutting the rug with the newly learned moves, more experienced ones eager to try new moves and variations they probably got inspired by videos on YouTube or just eager to casually have fun … like we always do.

You could feel people’s exhilarating vibes, joy and even euphoria. Smelling sweat was not a problem anymore, the excitement makes you breathless. The step you make … it’s not about where you land your feet, it’s about the joy you feel as you land your feet …

So many new people, so many old friends. It is not a problem though, it feels like we are all one HUGE family. The awesome time I had, the vibe I experienced last Friday … was priceless. That, my friends, what made me dance like a billionaire …

See you at Rags To Riches, my friends.
