Boogie Woogie Bender Workshop Part I

Hi there,

Today I started the boogie woogie workshop which I will finish tomorrow. I danced like 8+ hours today, not non-stop obviously … where should I begin? From highlights I suppose? On my way to the venue I passed Maserati (or rather, I ate its dust … 😀 ) and I also had 3 burgers in between 8 hours of dancing …

… ok, more about this event. We had 4 classes (1 hour each) by Austrian boogie woogie champions who have 40+ titles. Now you know that I never out people names on my blog so I cannot really out their names … but they had their performance today during social event … yes, there are many reasons why they have won those titles!

Anyway … let’s talk about the classes. First class was boogie woogie basics … it is interesting … if you compare boogie woogie to lindy hop, the difference is in pulsing (pulsing again 😀 ). In lindy hop, you pulse into the ground whereas in boogie woogie, you pulse upright. It also somehow magically allows very quick triple steps … but I could be wrong here … so in the first class we learned the basic – pulsing, basic steps, etc … we also learned some moves like swing outs, getting into close position from open, vice versa …

The second class touched on musicality … I like learning about it and we had this exercise where we had 3-eight bars of music and 4th was always the break. Breaks look good when you aim them well. We had freeze-type break, slow-motion break and some kind of lean break where followers did lean for like a beat or two.

Anyway, after that we had lunch break. 2 burgers and a coke were consumed. Now I am not really worried about my fats so I allow myself to eat burgers sometimes … 😀

Anyway, the last 2 classes were quite hard. We learned more moves like tuck turn (it probably was in the first class), change places, some hardcore moves where leads had to walk around their follows or move follows around themselves … it was hard and I could not do them properly in the beginning but then I managed … that’s pretty much all we learned in first 4 hours. We got another 4 hours tomorrow (or technically, today 😀 )

So anyway, then I had 2.5 hours break before socials. I tried to find a snooker club but got lost … then went to McDonalds and had my 3rd burger there … then I went to the venue at like 7:15 and sat there for like an hour before started dancing …

We had a live band performing twice and then our Austrian teachers performed and then Sophisticated Ladies performed and then we danced more … I was able to practice those jazz steps similar to Tacci Anne I learned last time. It was great and it worked! Did not do Charleston … although, thinking of it, some songs were fast but probably not fast enough for Charleston or too fast and I didn’t dance to those songs … I suppose I could dance boogie woogie all the time which I didn’t. I will try to dance some tomorrow at tea dance party, I promise!

Anyway, to sum up everything, I left home at 10 AM and got back at 11:50 so 14 hours sent well …
