Body Rolling And Moving At Kentish Town

Hi there,

I have to apologise as this post will not be nowhere as long as the past two posts … nor will it be as half funny … Anyway, I went to Kentish Town today. There was no traffic so all good. Learned something new!

First, intermediate class started. I wasn’t even late! So learned everything we did. We started with Texas Tommy and then as you finish with a proper handshake, you start the rotational rock step. Then on count 2 leads start building compression and then after first triple step, leads drive followers’ arm to their own hip and also connect with the left hands. Move does not finish there. You both walk on count 5 and 6 and then leads “guide” followers forward, raise left hand and followers make half turn and they finish on count 8 with crossed arms facing each other.

Next move … well, I might not even try to explain it. It’s like rock step, triple step, step, step, triple step 😀 No really, it’s like followers go around the lead and then perform 2 spins starting on count 6. I managed to do it vaguely … but not professionally … 🙁 After that hardcore move we still end up in a handshake “position” so we did basic swing out (rotation rock step, catching follower’s back and sending her forward into a lindy turn) and then we do entire routine again. It was fun when I could do it …

Anyway, we had a break, no chat and all (they put like 1 song for the break before they start the second class, I had something important to do and that was not dancing … 🙁 )…

Anyway, in this class I learned something I wanted to learn for quite some time now. Remember the class I had in Kentish Town where we … (no wait, I did not blog back then 😀 ). OK, this move is 4 beats move and leader’s footwork was really confusing (rock step, forward step, backward step) lol. OK, that move was not confusing or hard at all I just never knew how to get into it. It’s like when leads put their right arm right under follower’s neck, pretty much like when you go to cinema with your partner. Then you connect with left hands. It’s cool as you don’t need to send out your follower from that position into open (which we did in class). There are some other stuff you can do 😉

Anyway, we also did 6 count disconnected bypass or rather cross body bypass (I think the latter one is more accurate). We had this variation where before the second triple step leads catch followers’ right arm with their left arm and lead forward walk for leads and backward walk for followers. Adding crazy legs, right jazz hand and pecking in a single move was a funny thing to do … lol.

OK, we started social dancing after that. I had awesome dances and what not, we also did swing stroll. I did most of it alright but had to back out from certain point as we turned and I ended up in the first row … alone … was scary.

Anyway, I feel like I learned cool stuff today. Just finished yet another 4 days of dancing marathon. Now another class on Thursday, Helzapoppin’ on Saturday and another workshop on Sunday. Sounds busy.
