Balboa jigsteps and lots of sliding with Jiveswing Welwyn

Hello all,

I don’t even know where to begin … from the beginning right?

OK, woke up at 10 AM (yes, I am fixing my sleeping pattern myself ๐Ÿ˜‰ ), prepared breakfast and coffee …

… no, I won’t be bothering you by telling how my mundane morning and afternoon went … ๐Ÿ˜€

So we had 2 classes and 1 social today – Balboa week 3 (or was it 4?), no beginners lindy class today but we had some hardcore lindy hop sliding class (there is a highlight here).

Today I learned that there is another dance called Balswing … it’s like Balboa with jazz/lindy hop steps?? Cool.

Anyway, we did some basic and stuff … and then come around and what not. Then we did jigsteps. Quite cool actually considering that I am not a fan of Balboa. It’s quite similar to cross kicks from lindy hop or Charleston except you don’t disconnect, always keep connected … closely. I managed to get it done correctly at the end of the class … but why am I telling you this? You know me right? ๐Ÿ˜€

Anyway, we had a break and all …

Then we had this jazz warm up as always which I cannot follow properly … (I am lead, remember?)

OK, we started with the lindy turn … and then we were sliding a bit. We had this smelly salt or whatever on the floor which made it easier to slide (cheating!). We all lined up in one line and then we all were sliding towards … There were like 10+ of us trying to slide as far as we could … there was competition … you know what?

Wait for it …

WAIT FOR IT …

I won!

Yeah, that I did. There are people who can vouch for me ๐Ÿ˜‰

It was fun … that awesome moment of winning … (stroke my own ego ๐Ÿ˜‰ )

There isn’t much to tell how that sliding move looked like in a swing out … it’s like a lindy turn/swing out with a slide instead of count 6, 7 and 8 (on the followers part) then we had a variation where leads swap hands and lead followers to do wrapping/unwrapping move which can be done without sliding (I think none of the followers were sliding on that move; it would be weird … and dangerous). Then some hardcore sliding on lead’s part …

Then we had social dances. Honestly, I am quite busy on Thursdays so not always stay for socials for a long time … but I did it today. Had fantastic dances and stuff … (you know I lead, I always make good dances for myself ๐Ÿ˜‰ ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜› ) OK, enough jokes … for one day.

Anyway, we did 3 strolls, well, they did. I did 2. Charleston … I’ve done Charleston routine, was quite god (?) at it but never practiced so I wasn’t that good anymore … it was a good reminder! Then shim sham and then they did big apple which I cannot …

Anyway, to sum it up, it was excellent day, I feel like I learned lots today.

P.S. So much to teach you next time we meet ๐Ÿ˜‰
