Another Birthday Jam, Balboa And More Sliding With JiveSwing Welwyn

Hi there,

Another Thursday out (yeah, you got it right, technically, it’s Friday where I’m at! πŸ˜€ ). OK, you know me, I always start with the rants. Let’s make it different this time. Let’s begin with the highlights of the day as I have to make a confession today and that is scary …

Anyway, I had a very unexpected birthday jam! Yeah, really! I never expected that! It was mine and another guy’s birthday (sorry, you know I don’t out people here but you know who you are in case you are reading this blog). Anyway, we had a cake as well! Not just a cake but birthday card with best wishes and stuff! And even personalised! “Happy Birthday Don” is what the front sheet says! Yeah, I was stolen by many followers. The song was quite fast … no no, this is not a complaint but it was hard lindy hopping to that song, I guess Charleston was a better idea. Thank you whoever was involved! Really NICE!

OK, time for confession? NO! Let’s put it somewhere at the bottom lol.

About today’s classes, well, you know I don’t really like Balboa and I am doing it only because it’s lindy hop for beginners in the other class. Well, we didn’t learn anything new today, we recapped on the basics, smoothed them and stuff. I really feel like I upped my Balboa today. The best thing was that I managed to finally grasp the leading from come around into the basic and what not. So yeah, I can also do the basic quite easily now shifting my hips rather then whole body. That is how it’s actually done πŸ˜‰

Anyway, we had a break; I had a dance, chat, coffee and all …

The second class started. More sliding and stuff. I couldn’t slide as well as I used to although the floor is really good for it. I am thinking about putting suede under my shoes but then it would require me carrying a bag with shoes and stuff as I wouldn’t be driving with these shoes (what if I forgot to take the shoes?? πŸ˜‰ ). Anyway, we were adding slides onto the traveling lindy (no, it has got another name but I don’t know that, can’t remember that actually). It’s basically when you do a rock step, side triple step, connect with the opposite sides (both leads and follows) and then repeat to make it 8 beat move. I’m pretty sure everybody knows it πŸ˜‰

So we were adding slides to the second half of the move. It was quite hard as I couldn’t slide properly today, not sure why … And then we had this pop turn where followers turn 1.5 times instead of doing plain triple step. We had this little routine where we would do one plain move to both sides and then pop turn on the first half of second move and then plain turn-type pass from one side to another and then pop turn on the spot for leads and traveling one for the follows. We had some slides in them also. I don’t feel like I was king of sliding today, sorry … but it’s nice when people remember that and call you “King of sliding” πŸ˜€ (strokes my ego and stuff πŸ˜‰ )

OK, we had socials then, as always, had good dances, birthday jam, etc … did some fast Charleston, some lindy hop, etc …

Oh, confession time … πŸ™

Fine, here it is:

I believe I am slowly falling in love with Balboa, especially after today when I managed to do something (finally) …

OK, I think that sums up the day. I believe it was the best Thursday I ever had in terms of dancing and stuff πŸ™‚

See ya!
